Tropicaleo is a fast-casual Puerto Rican restaurant that focuses on serving authentic dishes made with the freshest local ingredients. It started as a pop-up shop and grew into Birmingham’s only Puerto Rican restaurant that provides vegan, paleo and gluten-free options (try their gluten-free Jibarito or Mofongo).

Tropicaleo is the greatest food concept to debut in Birmingham this century; it’s like traveling to a Caribbean Island for dinner. Instead of the regular meat and potato for lunch or dinner, visit Tropicaleo for real Puerto Rican food made with flavor and authentic Puerto Rican flair!

Eric Meyer and Andy Gwaltney, friends with more than a common interest for craft beer and home brewing, came together to found a brewery to celebrate life’s passions and provide Birmingham with a broad selection of flavorful craft beers. With a love of the outdoors they named the brewery after Alabama’s iconic Cahaba River. In the summer of 2011 they devised a plan to build a brewery and thus Cahaba Brewing Company was born.

Crafting excellent beer is their passion. Like the river itself, it is the source of the journey. They didn’t know what was around the bend, but this they did know—sitting on the bank was not an option. Now Eric and Andy are supplying Birmingham bars and restaurants with craft beers such as White IPA, Liquidambar, American Blonde, Ryezome Stout, Oka Uba IPA and rotating seasonals.

Local couple turned restaurateurs, Chef Willum Rogers and his wife Ellen, started Avondale Common House to extend their passions for good food and impeccable service. The couple, who met and married while training under several local chefs, pride themselves on the relationships they’ve built over the years with vendors, farmers, and farmers markets. Their main focus is amazingly fresh, seasonal and sustainable food with an emphasis on the local produce and seafood Alabama and the South have to offer.

Avondale Common House offers catering services for all sorts of events. Join them on Sundays for brunch and a Bloody Mary bar with a full bar, wine and champagne.

Look for their second location in Trussville, Alabama in Spring 2019.
